tl;Dr because I didn't write it up. Having HVAC replaced at rental property, heater is original from 1950's & AC was added in 1989. Word of advice, don't ever rent to family.
I wish I could have spent this moneys on my house or my 4 cars.

Ugh that hurts my insides hearing that amount of money wasn't spent on cars and/or garage with living space attached.

Try replacing all the windows in your house. Think Vette money. New Vette.

Got to do this too before I get my garage. We're doing our kitchen over now, then it's the Hvac, then the garage, then all the cars I want!!!!! Well probably not all but at least one!

I had to do 29 and the frames were shot too so I had to go with new construction windows. No sense in putting in cheapies when I'll be in the house for a long time, so there went a big 'ol sack of $$. When I bought the house I knew about it though so the home was priced accordingly.

Should have asked them, "What, the windows don't open?" Then proceeded to bill them for a fan.

We have a looming leach field replacement I won't enjoy spending that money but it will be nice to not have a wet spot on my lawn.

Only $5000!?! We paid $7800! I fucking hate NJ.

Oh brother I know that feel. I just did the same think at our rental in April. Considering the original heater last some 60 years and the condenser lasted 25 I'd say you're pretty damn lucky. My system last only 23 years.

We just had a vendor come into the office to present their doors and windows. Price for one pair of exterior french doors? Think Fiesta ST prices.

Okay that makes me feel a little better, our place is 1200 ft².

What actually died? I've got a Theseus' Paradox thing going on with a 60+ year old furnace. I don't think there's any way I could kill that thing.

Just bought a house with a 16 year old Trane a/c and heat pump system. Set aside $5k for eventual replacement. That 5k could do a lot for the Mustang.

Okay, two things:
1. We just replaced a sixty year-old furnace that never did die—I was actually kind of attached to the thing, it was so simple and hardy.
2. You taught me a new thing with your reference to Theseus' Paradox. Thanks! (Really!)
